I like playing with food because I’m also a food stylist, not an aspiring chef but a person who handles and treats food as an artistic material. This is what I do especially with advertising, when I have to do a small pale chicken’s make-up or arrange a not completely cooked dish of spaghetti. The main thing is that the ingredients look beautiful and delicious, they don’t have to be good and edible, too.
When it comes to food, though, I believe that the most essential thing is to tell a story. Styling is about storytelling. It is the creation of the mood around a dish and its ingredients, and composition is the way in which objects are related to each other; owing to a consistent and a aesthetically appealing prop selection, as well as the perfect balance of the elements and their placement on set, food becomes the image’s prominent star.
